Mentor a Kid
By
mentoring a Skyland Community High School student, you can share
your own profession and passion—and positively affect a young
life. You can provide a setting for a high school student to
learn and grow in remarkable ways.
While
our Internship sites serve as the backbone of our academic program
and provide incredible learning opportunities for our students,
we find that our Mentors often gain as much as our students
through these experiences.
Our
students generally work at Internship sites on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Each Internship is carefully set up and led by a
student’s Advisor, in order to support and maximize the experience
for the student and the Mentor.

Pick Me Up
Often,
most of us can benefit from a “pick me up” in the morning.
At
Skyland Community High School, we gather three mornings each
week as a school community—students, staff, faculty, visitors
and anyone else who's around—to pick each other up before starting
school day. During our Pick Me Up, we share announcements, stories,
poetry and book recommendations. We shout each other out for
doing amazing things. We play silly games and compete in outrageous
contests. We talk about issues of importance to us. We debrief
sports contests of the previous weekend. We host guest speakers
who can share a perspective to help pick us up—and maybe even
expand our world a little bit.
Skyland
is always looking for guests to join in our Pick Me Up. If you
have something to share—as a professional, as a traveler, as
an advocate for youth, as an inspirational speaker, as a college
representative, as part of Denver’s community—please contact
us and come for a visit. We would love to hear from you!
